i've just come back from the movies where i watched 'dirty dancing'. yes, that 'dirty dancing' and there were loads of women my age behaving super embarrassing. i, myself, just went there because i could go for free and got to sit in a leather seat. also, i got a small bottle of champagne for free. so everything perfect. i think i didn't watch the movie since i was 12 or 13 maybe. and it's really interesting to watch it again after so many years, being a grown up. having gone through that phase, that 'Baby' is going through in that movie, the phase of becoming an adult, questioning your parents' ideas of life and at least partly detaching from your family, developing an own identity, personality and way to see yourself. leaving the tracks that your family's built for you. in the end, i have to say, it wasn't such a bad movie after all. of course there are a lot of things to hate 'dirty dancing' for, especially its heteronormativity and the fact that becoming mature for 'Baby' means going from being Daddy's baby to becoming Johnny's baby, which becomes highly noticible in the german version of the most famous scene of the movie, where Johnny comes back to the hotel to "save" Baby saying (in german): "Mein Baby gehört zu mir." I like the original version a lot better, and i'm sad it was translated so badly (or not translated at all actually). In english, Johnny enters the room and says: "Nobody puts Baby in the corner". There is nothing about him and her, and ownership or anything like that. That phrase is just about Baby, and that she deserves to shine, which she is going to do in the dance scene that follows that sentence. funny how one bad translation can make a movie change its meaning completely. there is a lot more to say about 'dirty dancing' but that was just what bothered me when i got out of the cinema. i liked a lot about the movie too, though. especially of course the dance scenes. i love dancing. when you're body is taken up in the music, it's just extremely sexy and a great physical feeling. personally, i should dance more for myself, with others, for others. come here, lover boy.
